Are men and women equal?

   The matter of equality between men and women has been debated so frequently throughout the past years since it is such an imperative issue in this society. In my opinion, men and women should be equal but in reality, they are not. After the Declaration of Independence which explicitly demonstrates that all men created are equal, the inequalities among people for whatever reason had been subsided. Contrary to the past, since women proclaimed their rights, the equality between men and women has been reformed and improved.

   However, the inequality can be readily seen in this real society. There are generally requirements for men, and other requirements for women in the home, work, and society. Even if there is the same standard for men and women, the gap of treatment between men and women would be existed. For instance, think that you and your husband just got first jobs. When you get paychecks, you compare paychecks with your husband. You can find out that the amount of paychecks would be different from his.

   It is crystal clear that men and women have totally different features; people have their own unique characteristics which make them individual. These natural differences can engender many gender stereotypes associated with certain jobs. For example, as many people know, it is unusual for woman to be a carpenter. She could prove that she is talented in that job but naturally she has less physical strength than men. On the other hand, there were some jobs such as nurses and secretaries which deal with the women. Not only are those but there many jobs which prefer men to have. Especially, when you look at the positions which are high such as CEOs or owners of companies, a wide array of them are men however, women are subordinate to them.

   Moreover, inequality between men and women can be seen even at home. As traditional roles of men and women were certain and lucid, men worked and women stayed at home and took care of the children. Even though some might think that it would be just the problem in the past when tradition was based, almost the women work both outside and inside in this present day and age. After their work, they prepare meals for family and take care of their children. What’s more, in this society where always associated with money, the person bringing money to home is the one who had the power.

   As I mentioned above, the treatment between men and women has been reformed and improved. However, a myriad of people are abided by stereotype thinking when they consider men and women. It could be true that stereotype thinking will always be present, but we need not to judge men and women by the way of thinking. In my view, we still need to make attempts to set this relationship in a better way. More opportunities to work or education should be given to women. Men should understand their natural differences and allot each potion together.
